The market of computer applications is moving day by day from desktop to web and now is moving to smart phone and tablet. Although Android is the most popular operating system on mobile devices but last month two big customers of my company (I work there, not the boss đ ) decided to use iOS for their mobile devices. That means the softwares should be ported, maintained, developed further and supported on iOS. On the market iOS is also the leader on tablet area with its Ipad series. With all of these reasons, I , a .Net/Java programmer, decide to learn programming with Objective C on iOS as my secondary skill.
Install Oracle VM VirtualBox on Windows. First and foremost, pull up the VirtualBox setup. In our previous post, we have shown you how to install macOS Sierra 10.12 on VMware, and now in this article, Iâm going to show you how to install macOS Sierra 10.12 on VirtualBox on Windows 10.Apple has announced the next version of its Mac operating system âmacOS Sierraâ. Of course, the real change is that, after fifteen years, Apple has finally ditched the âOS Xâ moniker.
Type: Mac OS X Version: Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan (64 bit) Click next, select 4GB of RAM, and next again. Select the El Capitan image that you have downloaded and unzipped as the disk image, and create the machine. Back in the virtualbox manager, select your virtual machine and click edit. Extract Mac OS X Yosemite Niresh Intel and AMD Images.rar file to a folder, youâll get a list of these files. In VirtualBox, create a new machine with following settings. For Hard drive, browse to Mac OS X Yosemite Niresh Intel And AMD.vmdk file which can be found in extract folder before. OSBoxes offers you ready-to-use Linux/Unix guest operating systems. If you donât want to install secondary OS alongside with your main OS but still want to use/try it, then you can use VirtualBox or VMware on your host operating system to run virtual machine.
Like any other programming language, Iâll need a IDE (Integrated Development Environment) but itâs too expensive for me to buy a Macbook running Mac OS. So I just manage to install a MAC OS on VirtualBox and learn Objective C from that fake MAC OS. In this post, I would like to describe step by step how I get a MAC OS 10.7.3 running on VirtualBox. Itâs really simple, it just depends on which you download from Internet :).
1. Go to homepage of VirtualBox and download its latest version appropriate with your host OS https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads . Install it.
2. On the homepage of VirtualBox, download âVirtualBox x.x.x Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Packâ.
3. Open VirtualBox, menu File â> Preferences
4. On VirtualBox â Settings dialog â> Extensions â> Add Package
5. Enable Hardware Virtualization Technology (VT) in your BIOS. You must be sure that your processor supports VT and 64 bits. Without these prerequisites, the virtual machine wonâ work.
6. The pre-configured Mac OS X installation image. This image is the most important part during the installation. Any ordinary installation DMG file or disc you download from Apple or any torrent sites wonât work. This pre-created image is configured to be booted in VirtualBox. The credit of image, which I use in this post, belongs to souldevteam. To download this image, you can choose either torrent or direct link from links below.

7. Itâs about 3,5 GB. When the download is finished, extract .exe file to any folder on your computer, youâll have 4 files âHackBoot Mod.isoâ, âMac OS X Lion.vboxâ, âMac OS X Lion.vbox-prevâ and âMac OS X Lion.vdiâ.
8. In Virtual Box, menu Machine â> Add. Browse to âMac OS X Lion.vboxâ
9. A new virtual machine (Mac OS X Lion) will be added into VirtualBox Manager. Start it.
10. At boot screen choose Macintosh and press Enter
11. Open Terminal check its version with sw_vers command because there is still an error with this pre-configured image. When you click on Apple icon â> About This Mac, the virtual machine will be crashed.
12. Basically the installation process is done. But one of the most annoyed thing when using Mac OS X in virtual machine is keyboard layout. We canât use Command+C, Command+V to copy and paste data with clipboard. You know, there is no Command key and some of other special keys of Mac in Windows keyboard. I thought of buying a universal keyboard working on both platform Windows and Mac. Thereâs some kinds of them on market but my current keyboard still works perfectly. Therefore a soft solution will be better for me. To fix this problem, I go to homepage of DoubleCommand, download it http://doublecommand.sourceforge.net/ and install it. After installation, youâll find DoubleCommand in System Preferences
13. Click on DoubleCommand icon to open DoubleCommand windows, configure it as you like and remember to save all your changes by clicking on Save System or Save User. My sample settings are like image below.
14. Now we have a Mac OS in hand. Letâs go to Apple developer homepage http://developer.apple.com/programs/register/, download Xcode and iOS SDK. The first application âHello Worldâ is waiting for you. đ
I was recently asked by a client to port a simple web-based javascript program to an iOS app. I was pretty keen to try my hand at something new, however Iâve got a big idealogical problem with Apple â mostly because I think their hardware products are hugely overpriced for the specifications but also because of their annoying insistence that you have to develop for iOS on mac software. Itâs not like Windows or Andriod which you can develop on any platform. So, Iâm not willing to buy a mac (especially since Iâve just recently bought a nice new laptop), but I want to have a go at developing an iOS appâŚ
Enter Virtualbox. Itâs a piece of software that allows you to run a virtual computer âguestâ inside your standard computer âhostâ. Iâve used it before to have a separate windows installation for games and development, but I recently found out it was possible to run mac OS X too. Itâs almost impossible to run OS X on anything other than official apple hardware, but it turns out the âguestâ machines created by virtualbox can be tweaked and are much easier to get OS X running. By the way you should know that this is not really in line with Appleâs T&CâsâŚ.
Realistically you are going to need a quad core processor with at least 8GB of ram on your host machine. Hereâs a step by step guide:
1. Download virtualbox (Iâm using version 5.1) and install it, along with Winrar or 7zip and some torrent downloading software if you donât have those already.
2. Download the mac OS X El Capitan virtualbox disk, and unzip it. The following link contains details of the download (youâll need to follow my instructions to get the screen resolution and apple ID working correctly though..)

3. Open virtualbox and click âNewâ to create a new virtual machine with the following details:
Name: El Capitan
Type: Mac OS X
Version: Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan (64 bit)
Click next, select 4GB of RAM, and next again.
Select the El Capitan image that you have downloaded and unzipped as the disk image, and create the machine.
Back in the virtualbox manager, select your virtual machine and click edit.
In System>Motherboard, ensure that EFI is Enabled, Floppy id Disabled, Chipset is PIIX3.
In System>Processor, select two CPUs.
4. Open the windows command prompt as Administrator (type cmd at the start menu, right click and âRun as Administratorâ)
You can leave the command line window open.
Mac Os Vdi
5. Boot the virtual machine, and complete the setup for location and keyboard but DO NOT sign in with an Apple ID because it will not work until we have completed some steps below.
6. Open safari, search for and download a program called Chameleon Wizard. You will probably need to change the system settings to allow non-app store programs to run. Open Chameleon Wizard and click on the SMbios tab.
Click Edit, and then select one of the pre-made SMbioses. Choose the type of mac you want (doesnât really matter what, but best to resemble the virtual machine youâve create I reckon), choose a manufacturing location and randomise the week of manufacture. It will generate spoof identification for the virtual machine. Copy down the Product Name; Board Product; and Serial and shutdown the virtua lmachine.
7. In windows, in the command line windows, enter the following commands, replacing the 3 items of information you just copied down.
8. The display resolutions are fixed and you canât get all of them. To set up your display,
in the windows command line enter the following (Where N can be one of 0,1,2,3,4,5 referring to the 640Ă480, 800Ă600, 1024Ă768, 1280Ă1024, 1440Ă900, 1920Ă1200 screen resolution respectively.)

Close the command line window.

9. You can now boot the virtual machine, and will be able to log into it with an Apple ID. If you donât have one, just google Apple ID and you can create one on the Apple website. You can then log into the App Store and will be able to download apps and update as per a standard installation.
